Theatre Dance is not just about dancing, it’s about performing. This class will give you the chance to put it all into play!

Class begins with a center-floor structured warm up of all major body parts, to include strengthening and stretch.  Warm up consists of a technical jazz and ballet format layered with style, to include isolations, arms, and much focus on posture.  Strong emphasis is placed on technique, this being the ultimate platform for any type of performer.  Class then moves on to the basics of jumping, turning, and kicking, adding progressions across the floor with stylized walks and more isolations.

Most of the class will be spent learning original Fosse choreography, specifically “Steam Heat” from The Pajama Game (1954), letting you dance the routine enough to be able to perform it comfortably so you can concentrate on what you need to for yourself.  In a nurturing environment, you will learn how to dance Fosse's signature style working in groups of three, and with hats.  The atmosphere is fast-paced, positive, professional and challenging allowing each student to participate in a powerful Theatre Dance experience.  Personality and confidence is strongly encouraged!

Class Guidelines:

• All students attending are strongly encouraged to wear all black (a signature Fosse characteristic).  Please refrain from wearing loose fitting or baggy clothes.  Feel free to warm up in whatever you like but all warm-up clothes should be removed immediately prior to the start of class.

• Black, flat jazz shoes or dance sneakers should be worn.

• Knee pads a must for the “Steam Heat” routine.

• B.A.D. and the instructor will provide black theatre hats however; you are strongly encouraged to purchase your own fedora or bowler.

• Turn off cell phones before entering.

• ENJOY and HAVE FUN!
