Idy Codington
Ballet
, Technque/Barre

Idy returned to Boston in 1979 following her retirement as a company dancer with the Ohio Ballet under the direction of Heinz Poll. Her ballet training included working with Finis Jhung and May O'Donnell in New York, Mme. Vera Volkhova in Canada, Tanya Baboushkina in Boston, and Meridith Bailis, Ann Parsons, and Richard Griffith at the American Ballet Center.

That same year she opened a dance school in Boston called The Ballet Center, later renamed Ballet ETC. For 23 years she taught ballet of all levels to children and adults. In 2002 Idy sold Ballet ETC. to devote more time to dancing with her husband Bob Thomas, performing shows of early 20th century popular American dances as The Kamikaze Jitterbugs.

In addition to dancing shows around the U.S. with symphony pops orchestras, she and Bob also perform a historical dance program called Roots of American Dance: The African-European Synthesis across the U.S. and Canada.
